Football Returns to Curaçao — and It’s Back With Heart

After a period of quiet, the island came alive again as Kopa Kòrsou 2025 officially kicked off this past weekend. With matches on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, a new chapter in Curaçao football has begun — one filled with excitement, unity, and unforgettable moments both on and off the pitch.

This thrilling tournament is a collaboration between the Curaçao Football Federation (FFK) and the Curaçao Sports and Development Federation (FDDK). It brings together clubs from all three divisions — First, Second, and Third — into one national competition where the energy is high, the passion is real, and any team can make history. A total of 25 teams are participating in this year’s tournament.

Tournament Format

Six groups (A to F) are competing in a round-robin format. The top two teams from each group, along with the four best third-place finishers, will advance to the next round. The grand final will take place on July 2nd — Curaçao’s Flag Day, adding symbolic significance to this national celebration of football.

An Opening Weekend to Remember

Opening night on Friday brought fans together at both Rignaal “Jean” Francisca Stadium (RJF) and Dr. Antoine Maduro Stadium (SAM). The atmosphere was electric — full of color, music, and an undeniable buzz of anticipation. Families, friends, and football lovers gathered to support their teams and celebrate the long-awaited return of local football.

At RJF, newly elected FFK President Gilbert Martína delivered a powerful speech on the future of Curaçao football, setting a tone of unity and ambition.

At SAM, FDDK Managing Director Vergilly Winklaar inspired the crowd with words of pride and hope.

Even Curaçao’s Prime Minister, Gilmar Pisas, was in attendance, showing strong support for the tournament and the broader development of local sports.
