All eyes on Hiddink, as Curaçao aims for Qatar

In recent years, football in Curaçao has made giant leaps forward and landed us not only the title of Caribbean Champion, but also the privilege of getting the legendary Guus Hiddink as our national coach. At age 74, with an uninterrupted professional career, Hiddink brings Curaçao an impressive track record, having coached such teams as PSV, Valencia, Chelsea and Real Madrid, but also the national teams of The Netherlands, Korea, Australia and Russia. Few people have that much worldwide national selection experience, which is something quite different from training a single well-oiled team. With Hiddink on board, all eyes are on Qatar, in the wake of which we first have to face an array of qualifiers, starting with CONCACAF on March 24. Expectations are high, but as Hiddink explains, “we must first tame that feisty Caribbean spirit so we can harness and control its power, if we are to make it in the big leagues.”
