Gino van Kessel scored 7 goals in the Caribbean Cup so far

The Curacao national team started out with a clean slate ranking-wise in 2010, when the Netherlands Antilles split up and Curacao became an independent country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and as such a full FIFA member and affiliated with CONCACAF and CFU.

The Curacao Futbol Federation stated as one their ambitions for the coming decade: improving their position on the FIFA Ranking and eventually qualifying for the final round of a World Cup event by deploying talented professional players and staff for the national team.

Kluivert coach Curacao

In 2015 Patrick Kluivert joined the team as national coach and this was the start of a steady rise of the national team. A new generation of ambitious players has formed a determined team and slowly but certainly moved up in the Caribbean qualifiers.

In 2016, Patrick Kluivert accepted the position of technical director of Paris Saint Germaine and his assistant coach Remko Bicentini took over. Under Bicentini the Curacao national team qualified for the Final Round of the Caribbean Cup In October 2016 and, in the same breath, for the Gold Cup 2017.
